August has begun, which means it is only counting down the days until one of the first festivals establishing a solid fanbase and community in the Netherlands, A Campingflight to Lowlands Paradise, or commonly known as Lowlands, finally starts.
The festival’s first appearance was in 1993. At the time, it was one of three big festivals together with Dynamo Open Air and Pinkpop. Lowlands was providing a stage for more alternative music. Nowadays, Lowlands is the place to be for live pop performances.
Today, Lowlands is still one of the biggest festivals in the Netherlands. Their main focus is obviously music, but it also incorporates literature, politics, science and sustainability into its programme. This programme promises to motivate and inspire your brain to see the world from a different perspective. Hopefully the creative juices will be flowing after a weekend of cultural stimulation.
This year, the festival takes place on 21, 22 & the 23th of August in Biddinghuizen. The line-up consists of some pretty big names with New Wave, Tyler The Creator and Lorde as this year’s headliners. There are also some rising stars among the line-up, such as Adéla, Dove Ellis, Zimmer90, Keo, Erin Lecount and Chloe Qisha. It is the perfect line-up to intentionally go see your favourite artist and stumble upon some incredible new discoveries along the way.
As of today, the festival is not yet sold out. Regular tickets are still available. It is a recurring phenomenon this summer, for festivals to not be sold out. It seems the festival goers are more critically choosing which festival to go to, rather than attending multiple.
