Heavy Weekend 2026: Saturday Stole the Show

Saturday, June 6th, was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated days of Heavy Weekend 2026. With a lineup featuring some of the biggest names in modern metal alongside legendary figures of the genre, fans gathered early at Nancy Open Air, eager to experience what promised to be a memorable day. From groundbreaking newcomers to established icons, the festival offered a diverse showcase of heavy music at its finest.

Opening the day were Nova Twins, and what a way to start. As the only women performing throughout the entire weekend, the British duo delivered a performance that immediately proved they deserved far more recognition. Their chemistry on stage was impossible to miss. Every movement, every riff, and every vocal line demonstrated the strong connection they have built over the years. Blending alternative rock, punk, metal, and electronic influences, they brought a refreshing energy that stood out among the day’s heavier acts. Their stage presence was captivating, and despite playing early in the afternoon, they quickly managed to win over a crowd that may not have been fully familiar with their music. Nova Twins are not simply a great female-fronted act, they are a great band, and their performance was one of the most important of the entire festival.

Next came Cavalera, led by the legendary brothers Max and Igor Cavalera, founders of the iconic Brazilian metal band Sepultura. Their appearance felt like a history lesson in extreme metal. Decades after helping shape the genre, the brothers still perform with the same intensity and passion that made them legends. The crowd responded enthusiastically to the crushing riffs and raw aggression that defined their set. It was a reminder of the lasting influence Sepultura’s early work continues to have on generations of metal musicians and fans alike.

Trivium followed with a powerful and technically impressive performance. The American metal veterans demonstrated why they remain one of the most respected bands in modern metal. Their set was packed with precision, massive choruses, and relentless energy. Whether through soaring melodies or crushing breakdowns, the band maintained a strong connection with the audience throughout their entire performance.

Finally, it was time for Gojira. As the most internationally successful French metal band, expectations were incredibly high, especially since this was announced as their only French show of the year. Since their globally acclaimed appearance connected to the Paris Olympics, the band’s popularity has continued to grow, attracting new listeners while maintaining the loyalty of longtime fans.

From the moment they stepped on stage, Gojira showed exactly why they had reached such heights. Their performance combined immense power, technical mastery, and emotional intensity. Every member played with absolute precision while still delivering the raw energy that has defined the band’s identity for more than two decades. The crowd responded accordingly, creating one of the most electric atmospheres of the entire festival. More than just a headline performance, it felt like a celebration of French metal on an international scale.

With Nova Twins bringing fresh energy, Cavalera honoring metal’s roots, Trivium showcasing modern excellence, and Gojira delivering a masterclass in live performance, Heavy Weekend’s second day offered a perfect balance between past, present, and future. For many festival goers, this Saturday will undoubtedly remain one of the highlights of the entire weekend. All photos of the weekend can be found here!
