Formed in Florida, Arrows in Action have been paving their way in the music scene since 2015. Now having officially kicked off their “Lost in the Moment” EU headline tour, they are proving once again that although they’re a fun and chaotic trio, they are not playing around when it comes to their music.
Although I must admit, this night in Amsterdam was probably the first time in my life I have ever witnessed a crowd stay pretty calm and reserved during The Killers’ ‘Mr. Brightside’ when it played on the pre-show playlist, but the vibes in the room did a complete 180 as Arrows in Action took the stage. The pop-rock/alt-rock trio consisting of Victor Viramontes-Pattison (vocals, guitar), Matthew Fowler (guitar) & Jesse Frimmel (Drums) were beaming with joy as they kicked off the night with ‘Feel It Again.’
I don’t know about you, but I love it when you can tell a band is having the time of their lives performing together and judging by the laughter of both the band members on stage and the crowd alike, Arrows in Action fits right into that description. From joking about not being able to hear a fan asking the band a question all the way from the balcony to Jesse finding a fellow Florida born fan in the crowd, the banter between the guys translates effortlessly with the crowd.
Halfway through the set, ‘Head in the Clouds’ was followed by the two songs that were in true Floridian fashion inspired by the sun: ‘Hello Sunlight!’ and ‘Light Like You.’ Of course, the band couldn’t not also play their cover of ‘Ride’ by Twenty One Pilots which is featured on Rock Sound’s 10-year anniversary tribute album of Blurryface. Playing an unreleased song ‘Empty Canvas’ and following it up with their most popular song ‘Cheekbones’ was a great move, and it helped them manage to keep the crowd engaged till the very last second.
Between teaching us a TikTok dance, an acoustic set with a Q&A and having the crowd mimic drum noises, it is safe to say this trio knows how to hook a crowd. Early in the set Matthew explained this is the band’s first time in Europe and judging by this crowd, the band has made a lasting impression on the crowd and will be welcomed back with open arms anytime. But for now, make sure you don’t miss out on seeing Arrows in Action if they happen to play a show nearby you during this tour!
