On September 2nd we had the pleasure to experience post-hardcore band Being As An Ocean on their Swallowed by the Earth Tour. With amazing support-acts Senna and Of Virtue to get the crowd going. The three bands played the Pandora at TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht, the Netherlands.
The night kicked off with German band Senna. Quite a few people showed up early to check out all the bands. Senna kept the crowd both entertained and engaged. When the crowd got asked to put a light up in the air during ‘Morocco Mint’, the venue immediately lit up. The band only has five released songs to their name, but that did not stop them from putting on a hell of a show.
Next up on stage were Of Virtue. The band from Michigan wasn’t convinced of the crowd’s energy during the first few songs and encouraged them to go even crazier. The band knew what their task was and took it very seriously. When asked to form a circle pit everyone listened and quickly half the venue was a spinning circle of people.
Before the song ‘Torn Apart’ singer Tyler Ennis gave a speech about not having to feel alone and telling everyone they belong here. Before ending their set they reminded everyone of their new album Omen coming out on September 29th.
After two amazing bands it was time for the band everyone had been waiting for: Being As An Ocean. Anyone who has either been to one of their shows or is following the band on social media might know a thing or two about how these shows go down.
Singer Joel Quartuccio loves to get the crowd involved, jump in the crowd and encourage people to sing along. This night was no different, except he seemed to like being in the crowd more than being on the actual stage. He spent a good part of the night down on the floor running around, dancing and giving out fistbumps and hugs. Along with their newest single ‘Death Can Wait’ they also treated us to an unreleased song ‘Swallowed by the Earth’. Joel told everyone they weren’t going to do the whole going backstage before the encore thing today. He was having too good of a time to take a break and wanted to just keep going instead. After thanking everyone for traveling to the show and telling them to get home safe the night was coming to an end. They ended their set with ‘This Loneliness won’t Be the Death of Me’ and yelled out they would meet everyone at the merch table.
If you’re into post-hardcore I would strongly advise you to go see Being As An Ocean live. One thing is sure and that is that you will have an unforgettable night. The Swallowed by the Earth Tour continues on for two more weeks, check here to see if they are coming near you!
