Bury Tomorrow, a British metalcore band, performed in Germany on the 26th of January. The sold out show at Schlachthof in Wiesbaden was part of their 2024 UK/EU headline tour after the release of their sixth studio album The Seventh Sun that was released way back in March 2023. With them, they brought two more killer bands. The American metalcore band We Came As Romans joined the tour as special guests, and Kingdom of Giants performed as the opening act.
Doors opened at 6.45pm on the cold and windy evening, and the fans that were waiting outside were finally allowed to enter the building. When opener Kingdom of Giants started to play right on time at 7.45pm, the venue was still steadily being filled with arriving people. They opened the set with ‘Burner’, a song from their most recent album Passenger from 2020. The band delivered proof of their skill in getting the crowd moving and warmed up the audience for the upcoming hours with heavy breakdowns. The powerful screams by vocalist Dana Willax and the complementary voice of bassist and vocalist Levi Norris got the crowd going. Before starting into ‘Cash Out’, the 4th song of the set, lead singer Willax asked the crowd to split in the middle for a “wall of death”, but it seemed like their audience would prefer moshing around. In between two songs, Willax took the chance to thank Bury Tomorrow for the opportunity to feature them on this huge tour. The first crowd surfer of the evening appeared during the penultimate and rousing song titled ‘Bleach’. Kingdom of Giants left the stage after playing a set of seven mood-setting songs.
After a short break, special guest We Came As Romans entered the stage at 8.45pm. The venue was packed by now and it was getting hot in there. By opening the set with ‘Darkbloom’, they started with a rousing melodic banger. Unmistakably, there were some We Came As Romans fans in the house, singing along as loud as they could. Before playing ‘Lost in the Moment’, Lead singer Dave Stephens reminded the crowd that this was their moment to have fun and let go by moshing, crowd surfing or just enjoying the music. Furthermore, he encouraged everyone to visit the band at the merch table after their show. While jamming ‘Black Hole’, one of their most famous songs, the band and their fans created an epic scenery when the rest of the band members stopped playing and the room was filled by the immersive voice of Lead Singer Dave Stephans backed up by the crowd singing along with him. They closed the set at 9.15pm with another heavy song called ‘Daggers’. Stephans took the last chance to crowdsurf into the middle of the venue where he sang the last lines literally standing on the audience’s hands.
When the music from the venue‘s speakers went quiet again and the LED wall on stage showed the turquoise coloured symbol of their latest album, you were able to sense the anticipation of the crowd waiting for the main act of the evening: Bury Tomorrow. The crowd screamed in excitement while the band members positioned themselves on stage. They started right into it by playing the track ‘The Seventh Sun’ and immediately got the people moving to the heavy instrumental and opening a mosh pit shortly after. The heavy screams of vocalist Daniel Winter-Bates and the clean singing of keyboarder Tom Prendergast were a perfect match. Winter-Bates took his time between the songs to make sure that everyone was fine and enjoying the evening. He said that he really likes crowd interaction and everyone who would like to say hello should just crowdsurf their way to the stage to give him a high five. He made clear that he wants to see as many crowd surfers as possible. He warned the security to be prepared and thanked them for the good work. He definitely got what he wanted. While playing the well liked song ‘Black Flame’, a huge amount of people accepted the offer, and the British lead singer kept his promise by giving a high five to every crowd surfer who reached out to him.
After two more heavy songs, Winter-Bates reached out to the people by talking about a song from their most recent album: Warth. This is a song that tells a story about losing someone close, like a family member or friend. He continued by saying that this song goes out to everyone who had to suffer through this pain, that it connects people and that we should give each other strength during hard times. He sounded like knew exactly what he was talking about when he spoke about depression and that it can make you feel worthless. The vocalist told his audience loud and clear that each and everyone of them has a purpose and he thanked the audience for being there with the band. The crowd showed their love with an overwhelming applause. The highlight of the set consisted of two songs nearly everyone seemed to be waiting for: ‘Cannibal’ and ‘Choke’, two amazingly good and rousing songs. Afterwards, they went off stage and came back with the encore: ‘DEATH (Ever Colder)’, a song where everyone had one more chance to go crazy. Bury Tomorrow closed the show at 10.45pm.
In conclusion, the three bands used the space on stage to move and jump around, having enough energy to take the crowd with them. They harmonised perfectly and created a joyful and very emotional evening for every metalcore fan. Bury Tomorrow announced that they might come back to Germany later this year, so don‘t miss the chance to see them if you can!
