After some incredible collaborations with artists like Sleeping With Sirens and MOD SUN, and touring alongside 5 Seconds of Summer and My Chemical Romance, Charlotte Sands played her first-ever headliner show in Amsterdam, a completely sold-out show, and we had the pleasure to attend and review it.
Whispers of how it feels a little bit weird to go to a show without an opener echoed through the room, but still, the energy in the room is like no other as the crowd patiently waits for the remarkable singer to take the stage. At exactly 9 pm sharp, Charlotte Sands kicks off the night with her songs ‘can we start over?’ and ‘pity’.
Alongside her incredible talent, Sands’ stage presence wins the crowd over within mere seconds as she thanks the crowd for coming to support her and she feels so excited to perform in Amsterdam for the first time ever. “Can I just say your energy is something else Amsterdam?”
Continuing her set with her catchy song ‘Bad Day’, the crowd sings along every word loudly. Charlotte is the kind of talent who can capture the attention of the entire crowd, no matter whether they are familiar with her music or not yet. She engages with the crowd as much as she can, and her catchy songs and powerful lyrics are hard not to enjoy in a live setting. Midway through her set, Charlotte takes the time to perform two of her songs acoustically, pulling out a binder of her entire discography to help her with that. Here she asks two fans in the crowd to choose a song for her, handing over her binder to them. She is visibly very excited as the first fan-made choice ends up being ‘Phantom Pain’, the song that was her first ever released song back in 2018. ‘Six Feet Under’ is the second choice made, and she mentions that it is one of her favourite songs she has ever written.
From receiving Dutch treats from a fan in the crowd in exchange for a guitar pick to the successfully played-out fan project during her performance of ‘Alright,’ it is safe to say Charlotte Sands receives the love that she gives to her fans back in every way possible.
Her witty jokes and her yapping moments enhance her already amazing stage presence to another level and she is able to engage with the energy in the room in a way only a few performers can. Ending the night on a high note with ‘Spite’ and a heavy version of ‘Dress’, we are positive she managed to steal the hearts of many people in the room that night and by doing so turned some casual listeners into new fans.
