Live Review: Crawlers in Notthingham

On the 12th of February, Crawlers performed a small set to a crowd of fans in record store Rough Trade. The queue for the Nottingham date of the Crawlers’ album release show could be heard from halfway down the street – fans avidly queued outside the record store, ready for the intimate acoustic show ahead.

Upon their arrival on stage at around 7:05, the band kicked off their show with the song ‘Call It Love’, with singer Holly expressing her appreciation for the opportunity to sit and sing in contrast to the usually chaotic nature of their regular stage performances. The intimate tour takes place ahead of the release of their debut album titled The Mess We Seem To Make, with the band putting on an exclusive performance of a new song from the record.

Around halfway through the show, Holly announces team member Mark is standing within the crowd holding a hat — a hat filled with different song options for one chosen fan to unknowingly draw out of. At first, a fan pulled out ‘Crazy Frog’, which was met with laughter from the crowd and immediate dismissal from the band. The second attempt was equally chaotic, with ‘Whistle’ by Flo Rida being the next choice. Laughing from all around, a final attempt found that the next performed song was ‘Lucy’, an unreleased song written about a high school romance experienced by Holly.

As the show drew to a close, their most popular song ‘Come Over (Again)’ was performed, and a fan in the crowd threw a lesbian pride flag on stage, which was immediately taken up by Holly and worn with pride. The crowd was at its loudest as the bridge was sung, the lyrics known by everyone.

Leaving the stage, fans headed towards the signing desk, where the band chatted to each one of them individually and signed a free exclusive art print.
