It’s a Sunday evening, and to end this past week, the English band King No-One took the stage at the Milla Club in Munich- playing in this city for the first time!
On Instagram and Twitter/X, they put out a call for people to recommend local bands of each city they’re playing in, for them to possibly support them at a show.
For this show it was Quirinello, consisting of Svenja (synthesist), Quirin (vocalist, guitarist), Luca (bassist) and Mario (drummer), that opened the evening. Before they started their set, Quirin mentioned that they’ll play songs in German, as well as in English. He also said that some of the songs have a more energetic style to them, and others are rather dreamier. They played 6 songs for the audience and their first one of the night called ‘Stuck’, is about stage fright. When University started to slowly open up again, after Covid hit, Quirin and a uni group he had, started to drink Wiener Melange (an Austrian coffee speciality). Those moments they shared gave him a feeling of community- the band’s third song ‘Wiener Melange’, describes that. During their set the audience nods and claps along. The crowd also cheers and claps excitedly for King No-One, when Quirin mentions them being on next. Quirinello closed their set with one of their older songs ‘Pain Of The Pine’, which was released in late 2018.
King No-One, Zach Lount (vocalist), Joe Martin (guitarist), Rob Gration (bassist), James Basile (drummer) are next to take the stage. They open up their set with their newest release ‘Manchester Rain’. After this song Zach says “Hello Munich” and mentions that it’s their second furthest from home headline show that they have played. He continues to sing ‘Obsolete’ as an acoustic song and is amazed that people knew the words to it. They play an unreleased song called ‘Scumbag’. Zach mentions that backstage before the show he started to watch universe videos and went on and on about them, which made the whole room laugh. During their song ‘Alcatraz’ Zach is standing on James’ drum set and the audience sings along to the end of the song. The venue had a piano on stage and Zach sang an unreleased song called ‘Goodbye My Love’ for a long time fan who was in the crowd and who he shouted out before the song. The audience sings along to the chorus of their song ‘Say Nothing at All’. During ‘Antichrist’ Zach stands on the piano and jumps from it to get onto the stage again. They leave the stage shortly before their last song, and for the encore the audience gets to wish for a song- it ends up being ‘Halo’, which is the oldest song during their set.
Zach expressed gratitude from all of them multiple times throughout the evening. People danced, the band seemed happy and they moved energetically on stage. When going to a King No-One show you’ll leave with a smile on your face, reminiscing the memories of the night- I certainly did!
