Live Review: King Nun in Rotterdam

Excited to be back in the Netherlands for their headline tour, King Nun gets to rock the stage in four different cities. On the 29th of March it was Rotterdam’s turn to watch the band play both new and old songs of their incredible discography.

As the room slowly fills up with an energetic crowd, opener Flat Party gets to kick off the night. By starting with their song ‘Circle’ followed by ‘Aching For Living’, Flat Party manages to grab the attention of the crowd right off the bat. As the set goes on, more and more people start to dance along and not a single person in the room seems to be having anything less than a good time. After thanking the crowd for coming early and thanking King Nun for bringing them along, Flat Party ends their set with their song ‘I’m Bored, Give Me Love’ which is welcomed by the audience with open arms.

After a short break, it is time for King Nun to take the stage. The band consisting of Theo Polyzoides (vocals and guitar), James Upton (guitar), Ethan Stockley-Young (guitar), Nathan Gane (bass) and Caius Stockley-Young (drums) started off strong with ‘Golden Age’, the lyrics “Collect reward upon your knees again. This drip-feed ain′t enough, this day this week this year or ever” fills up the room. Before diving into their next song, Theo notices someone in the crowd filming the band and jokingly asks him “who are you filming for? They should be here!” After which the band starts their song ‘Selfish’. As the night goes on Theo asks the crowd to “give it up” for Flat Party one more time as he admits that they are one of his favourite bands and that he is very excited to have them as their opener. This energy gets returned when Flat Party joins the audience to sing alongside them during the closing song ‘But We Live on the Beach’.

From the very first second until the very last, the bands put up an amazing show and managed to keep the audience engaged and even started a couple of mosh pits. Theo was very right when he looked into that phone’s camera at the start of their set and told whoever was going to see the video that they should’ve been there. I think that anyone who has the chance to see King Nun live, should take it. One thing is for sure, you’ll have to try very hard not to have a good time at a King Nun show.
