Live Review: Mallrat in Leeds

On Tuesday, June 24th, the Australian alt-pop artist Mallrat brought her ‘Light Hit My Face Like A Straight Right’ tour to The Key Club in Leeds. With its intimate 300-person capacity, the venue provided the perfect backdrop for her dreamy, emotionally charged set. It was small enough to feel personal, but packed with lots of energy.

She opened the night with the song My Darling, My Angel’, a gentle and thoughtful introduction that set the tone for what would be an emotionally rich performance. Between songs, Mallrat shared anecdotes and insights, offering the crowd a glimpse into the stories behind her music making the show feel even more intimate.

Fan favourites like Groceries and Rockstar lit up the room, with the crowd enthusiastically singing along. These more upbeat tracks brought a playful energy that balanced the introspective moments beautifully.

One of the night’s standout moments came with the song Horses, a haunting, slow-burning track that held the room in silence, the crowd swaying as Mallrat delivered one of her most affecting performances.

She closed the show with a heartfelt encore, performing Virtue, Charlie, and a stripped-back version of Hideaway, leaving the audience in a warm, reflective hush. The amazing performance gave the fans a night they will be talking about for a long time and let’s hope Mallrat comes back soon for another performance, as we can’t wait to see her again.
