After her show in Utrecht a week ago, Natalie Jane returned to The Netherlands on March 9th for her second Dutch show of the ‘Sick To My Stomach’ world tour. This time the concert was held at the Next Stage of Poppodium 013 in Tilburg with a capacity of 700 people. With the venue being filled with adult friend groups as well as teenagers with their parents, the crowd ended up being very varied but still united through Natalie Jane her music. Before Natalie Jane entered the stage, the crowd got treated to two opening acts: Band of Silver and Oliver Cronin.
First up were Band of Silver, an Indie-pop sibling band from Nashville with drummer Evan Silvernagel, guitarist and vocalist Alex Silvernagel and lead singer Avery Silvernagel. As soon as the band started with their set, the room was filled with the unique but powerful sound of Avery Silvernagel. With their high energy performance of songs like ‘Artificial Intelligence’, ‘Necromancer’ and a cover of Depeche Mode’s ‘Enjoy The Silence’ as well as the many fan interactions, they managed to get the crowd all hyped up and dancing from beginning to end.
Next up was Oliver Cronin, a 23 year old singer from Australia who shared that he got married to his girlfriend, who he met at the age of 14, just three weeks prior to going on tour with Natalie Jane. With Will Roman, his guitarist, he delivered a performance with upbeat songs such as ‘Burning House’ and ‘1,2,3 (with Topic)’ as well as smaller songs like ‘Balance’, which is a song he wrote about how he met his wife, and ‘In The End’ a song to let you know it always get better. Oliver Cronin definitely made the crowd fall in love with him and his ‘Tilburg I’m in you’ t-shirt while connecting to his lyrics.
After two sets of openers, it was time for Natalie Jane to take the stage. She opened the show with the song that is also the name of the world tour ‘Sick To My Stomach’. After finishing this song, Natalie Jane told the crowd she was having some vocal issues and needed their help by singing as loud as they could, something she didn’t have to ask the crowd twice as they were determined to sing every song as loud as they could. As the show went on fans started to shower Natalie with presents on stage starting with two giant stuffed panda bears as well as many friendship bracelets, but what might have been the biggest present for Natalie Jane was two fans getting engaged at the show. To this, she responded by asking if she can come to the wedding instead of dedicating the next song to them because she is “really praying this song is not for you”, as she was about to play ‘Mentally Cheating’.
A little later in the show she announced that she is working on a new album and played the unreleased song ‘How You Been’, a song she wrote about not telling her ex-boyfriend she is doing terribly, as well as ‘Falling’ a song that was made to dance on, something the crowd definitely did as they jumped and danced with Natalie Jane.
But not only did she treat the audience with new music, she also had some roses as presents for some of them saying this was her favourite part of the show. One rose was for the birthday girl, who also got ‘Happy Birthday’ in Dutch performed by the crowd and in English performed by Natalie as well as the crowd. One rose was for the loudest person in the crowd and the bouquet of red roses for the saddest person in the crowd before performing ‘Intrusive Thoughts’ which filled the room with a sea of flashlights and fans pouring their hearts and souls into singing the lyrics along with her. To continue this heartfelt moment, she next sang ‘seven’, adding some female rage power, and once again the crowd was dedicated to be as loud as they could.
Her wide vocal range throughout the entire show treated the ‘Hot girls have school camp tomorrow’, as well as the friend groups, parents and their teenagers, to a high quality performance which showed what Natalie Jane is capable of even when struggling with vocal problems. She caused the audience to leave all hyped up and even more in love with Natalie Jane, and excited for her next album, which will hopefully be accompanied by a new tour.
