It might have seemed like a normal Thursday night to most people, but the fans of the band NEEVE knew better. The German band played at Club Bahnhof Ehrenfeld in Cologne as part of their Like A Piece Of Art tour. The venue was a bit unusual, as it looked like an old bunker. While getting in you had to pass through several thick metal doors before you made it into the main hall.
From the second we walked in, the vibes were immaculate. The air conditioning was blasting, making it nice and chilly inside. People were already dancing to the pre-show playlist and just having fun with their friends while they waited for the show to start.
To warm up the crowd singer THALA took the stage. It was just her and her guitarist on stage. The crowd had flowers for her and were waving around glow sticks. THALA’s energy was great. She was born to be on a stage and was great at interacting with the crowd. Thala was very grateful to be on this tour. She just released an EP a couple of months ago called In Theory Depression. THALA ended her set with her latest release ‘Honey (I Hope, You Understand)’. Before leaving the stage she told the crowd how she always takes a video for her grandmother and she wanted to make one today as well. The crowd happily participated and cheered for her.
At 9 pm NEEVE were ready to put on one hell of a show. On the small stage the 5, and occasionally 6, person band barely fit. But if you’ve ever been to a NEEVE show you know that singer Felix likes to jump around, so he did. For several songs, they also had a saxophonist on stage with them. Their latest release ‘Blackout’ appeared pretty early in the set. Their setlist had both older and newer songs on it, and the crowd seemed to be pleased with every single song that was on it. Especially during ‘I know that you know’ the crowd went crazy, jumping up and down and singing along.
Between songs, the interaction with the crowd and speeches were top-notch. It was the birthday of a girl in the crowd, so the band and crowd immediately started singing ‘Happy Birthday’ for her. The band is pretty outspoken on topics such as homophobia, transphobia, toxic masculinity etc. During one of the talk breaks Felix rightfully so said a big fuck you to all transphobes, homophobes etc. Later on, someone threw a pride flag on stage, which then ended up draped around Felix’s neck for a song.
For the song ‘Why not myself?’ it was only Felix on stage with a guitar. The crowd put their glow sticks back in the air, slowly waving them side to side. If there’s one song you might know from the band it’s probably ‘Where I wanna be found’, as this song did pretty well on TikTok. After that song, THALA came back on stage to join in for the music ‘478’. If you have a song in your discography titled ‘BYE BYE’, it is nothing but expected to end your set with that.
