In the last weekend of November, Dutch popstar Roxy Dekker played three sold out shows in Amsterdam’s AFAS Live. On Saturday evening November 29, Dekker played her final show, and even before it started, everyone knew tonight would be the craziest show yet.
Even though Dekker doesn’t have a lot of music out yet, there was not a single dull moment in the show. The stage featured a lot of curtains, flowing over from the stage onto the ceiling, making the venue feel like it was a giant living room. The show started with ‘Casual’, smoke spilling over the stage and a flowery mic stand, setting the scene for the night. From the magical start onwards, the fans got their first share of confetti in the shape of flowers and every song was matched with all the enthusiasm in the world.
As it was the last of three sold out shows this weekend, the crowd intended to prove the last show would be the best one, by dancing and screaming along as loud as they possibly could. The two evening shows allowed for fans of sixteen years and older to join, while Saturday’s matinee show had been meant for Dekker’s younger fans below that age. The mostly female crowd got dressed up to party with the Dutch answer to Sabrina Carpenter. Even though plenty of partying happened throughout the night, there were also a couple of more emotional moments. Dekker’s grandparents were at her show for the first time, getting her a little choked up.
With it being the last show (for now), Dekker had a couple of surprises in store to celebrate it a little more, determined to top the earlier ones. Since Dekker has so far only released one album and an EP, there was not a lot of material to fill the evening with. She cleverly worked a handful of guest stars into the show, including Ronnie Flex, Bankzitters (her own boyfriend, Koen Sebastiaan van Hees, being a part of this act), Russo, and Marco Schuitmaker, which gave her the perfect opportunity for an outfit change or two as well.
The 20-year-old star released an EP earlier this month, and she made her way through the crowd to the B stage, to play two of the new songs off GO BESTFRIEND for her best friends. At the earlier shows she pulled fans from the crowd, but with the personal note to this evening, it was more than logical she got her four best friends to join her on the fluffy couch in the middle of the venue. All the personal touches added made the evening feel like she’s best friends with everyone at the show on this Saturday night, as if it was one big slumber party.
Between dance breaks and uptempo songs, there were a couple of moments for the crowd to be able to cool down, for example during an acoustic cover of Racoon’s ‘Love You More’, which is her boyfriend’s favorite song. Right afterwards, Dekker and her boyfriend sang the duet ‘1 Nacht’. A little later, Julian Vahle joined her on stage with a piano for ‘Jouw Idee’. Even though it wasn’t expected beforehand, somehow the adoring fans still got to hear about 26 songs in the span of an hour and a half.
It was so good to see that these young girls all got to experience this kind of show, really proving to be such a positive experience for what was possibly the first concert for a lot of them. They were professing their love for the popstar from front to back, and Roxy Dekker herself got emotional about it more than once too. The show ended on another dance party with her biggest hit and Dekker’s favourite song, ‘Sugardaddy’, letting all the fans leave the venue with a smile on their face and a skip in their step, as they just kept singing the songs on their way home.
Roxy Dekker’s fans don’t have to miss her for too long, as she announced she’s doing two shows in the much bigger Ziggo Dome in September 2026. Tickets for the two shows are on sale now and can be bought here.Â
