Live Review: Victoria Canal in Amsterdam

For anyone who’s looking for a concert that also serves as a group therapy session, singer songwriter Victoria Canal is exactly what you’re looking for.

Welcomed by the loud cheering and applause of her audience, Victoria took the stage at Paradiso in Amsterdam. With her stunning vocals and lovely sense of humor she wrapped her audience around her fingers in no time.

Victoria took her audience on a rollercoaster ride in a way only she can do. She moved her fans to tears when she played ‘Swan Song’, a song she dedicated to her father, and ‘Motion Sickness’ as a request by someone in the audience “for the gays.” She’s not one to shy away from being open and vulnerable, and not only through her lyrics. Throughout the night she took every opportunity to speak to her audience. She touched upon her struggles with her body image and that it helps to know that many people are struggling with it too.

Nearing the end of her setlist she ended up getting a little bit emotional herself. “This is one of my favourite shows I’ve done on this tour. Seeing how many of you have come to see me, it means a lot. I am so grateful, thank you.”

Ending the night on the high note, she performed an encore per request from her audience after she jokingly said she hadn’t prepared an encore but would “pull one out of my ass and come back if you want me to.”

After the show she took the time to meet everyone who showed up for her and I think I can speak for everyone in that room when I say: if you ever get the chance to go to a Victoria Canal show, take it! You will not regret it. Not only can she sing beautifully, but she is also an absolute sweetheart who adores what she does for a living, and she does it so well.
