On May 9th, Áine Deane released a hymn about friendship and girlhood. The 24-year-old Brit has already made a name for herself in the past year with her fun yet profound music that is the embodiment of Gen Z sound. Amongst her most popular works are the releases ‘if you called me today, i would come back tomorrow’ and ‘Handmedowns’; two refreshingly honest songs which prove that Áine wears her heart on her sleeve and effectively uses this to create exquisite pop music. In ‘THE SISTERHOOD’, this quality is more evident than ever.
The song, which resembles some of Maisie Peters’ best work and could have also easily been on Taylor Swift’s album Speak Now, is pleasing to the ear and further solidifies Áine’s position as one of the most promising newcomers in the UK pop scene. ‘THE SISTERHOOD’ is fun, cheerful and heartwarming, recounting experiences that pretty much every girl can relate to and will happily reminisce about, and repeatedly promising everlasting loyalty and love. Simply put, it’s a serotonin boost.
The chatter and laughter that can be heard in the background at the beginning already set the mood for a song that feels like the soundtrack to a coming-of-age film. This is a track that is likely going to end up on a lot of ‘getting ready’ playlists as well as ‘road trip’ mixtapes but it also has the potential to become a successful radio hit. In fact, Mollie King, presenter of the show ‘Future Pop’ gave the track its first ever radio play on BBC Radio 1 and praised its lyrics.
Apart from its touching lyrics and its exciting tune, the song gets extra points for the adorable music video that consists of recordings of a girls trip Áine took with her sisterhood. Speaking of her friends, what makes the track even more special is the fact that it will be followed by a gig called ‘The Sisterhood Show’ where Áine herself will perform alongside several of fellow musicians such as Tamzene, Victoria Canal and Liang Lawrence. What’s better than a great song celebrating friendship? Exactly, an evening full of live music from plenty of amazing artists celebrating their friendship.
