Spotlight: ear candy

If you feel like your playlist keeps shuffling the same old songs over and over again, take a minute and keep reading. We’ve found your new favorite band, producing music to dance and cry to. If you want to be able to say that you were here from the get go – keep your eyes peeled for all things “Ear Candy”.

The four mates from Bournemouth; Jamie (vocals, guitar), Jacob (keys), Aidan (bass) and Paul (drums), make alternative indie music and every song is its own little anthem for a different very relatable emotion or situation.

Ear Candy have already released 10 singles, alternative versions for 4 of their songs and 1 EP over the past two years. Their first single ‘over you’ has generated around 44 thousand streams so far, while their recent EP Songs But Not Forgotten hit 50 thousand streams in around just two weeks.
When asked via social media about their inspiration, the band named a few artists including Imagine Dragons, The Neighbourhood and Two Door Cinema Club, which becomes clear when you listen to all of their music.

Their latest release ‘broken & finished’ especially sounds like the soundtrack of the (now sadly ending) summer. It has this upbeat sound with encouraging lyrics about taking back your strength after a breakup. Ear Candy are known for their upbeat, happy sounds while talking about relatable stories. But if you want to know more about their latest songs, go check out our review articles.
Their music, while known for being mostly cheerful, is very versatile which becomes clear when you listen to tracks such as ‘vitamin’ and ‘contrary’ (especially the piano version). Both songs stem from a piano ballad with beautiful vocals.

Ear Candy also have a YouTube account where you can find their music videos, live versions of their songs and show day diaries. The band truly does the most for their fanbase (who are called “Candy Fam”, by the way.) From working hard on their music and making their shows special for every person present, to talking to their fanbase on social media almost every day, Ear Candy have truly created a warm and welcoming little family. This was also evident when lead singer Jamie flew out to Krakow (Poland) and did a little meet-up with the Candy Fam. About 30 fans traveled from different countries to meet Jamie and sing a couple songs with him and his acoustic guitar.

Speaking of playing live, Ear Candy have played all over the UK and even in mainland Europe. From headline shows in the UK and Utrecht (Netherlands) to support shows in Cologne (Germany) and Paris (France), the four friends have played loads of live shows in the past years.
Their biggest show to date was “Festival Too” in King’s Lynn in 2023. But the plan is to keep touring and eventually meet Candy Fam friends from all around the world.

If you fancy seeing a bunch of energetic musicians play your new favorite songs live, you should check out the Ear Candy socials and their website to get your tickets to the upcoming shows in October. The band will be playing two nights in a row, October 9th in Southampton and October 10th in London. So what are you waiting for? Get yourself some tickets!

To sum this all up: Ear Candy is THE upcoming band of your dreams and if you want the claim of being here from the beginning, you should keep your eyes and ears wide open. This band is just getting started.
