Song Review: ‘Secret’ by Lucas Horne

Lucas Horne, the indie singer-songwriter originally from Indiana, has found his home in the vibrant music scene of Los Angeles. Emerging from the high school choir circuit in Bristol (TN), Horne’s passion for songwriting and performing has deepened over the years.

‘Secret’ is a testament to Horne’s ability to craft melodies that resonate deeply. With its repetitive yet infectious nature, the song’s upbeat melody quickly finds its way into your head and refuses to leave. Driven by prominent drums, the song gains an irresistible energy that draws listeners into its captivating rhythm.

In the verses, Horne delves into the complexities of the human mind, exploring themes of introspection and self-awareness. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a restless mind, constantly grappling with thoughts and emotions (“Zoning out, make conversation; Commercial running in my brain”). Yet, amidst the chaos, there’s a plea for understanding and empathy, a desire to keep the inner turmoil hidden away from the world.

The chorus serves as a poignant refrain, echoing the protagonist’s plea for secrecy (“Can you keep – can you keep it secret?”). Horne’s vocals soar as he questions how someone could possibly know the inner workings of his mind, begging for his thoughts to remain concealed. As ‘Secret’ unfolds, Horne’s heartfelt melodies and thoughtful lyrics draw listeners deeper into his world. With its undeniable catchiness and relatable themes, the song leaves a lasting impression, promising even greater things to come from Horne’s upcoming debut EP, 17, set to be released in 2024.
