On April 12th, Perrie Edwards released her first solo single after going on indefinite hiatus with worldwide global girl group Little Mix. She is the second member of the group to release solo material. Her first single ‘Forget About Us’ is co-written by herself, Ed Sheeran, Steve Solomon, and David Hodges. Perrie revealed in an interview how she changed Ed’s lyrics a little bit to fit more into her story and to hopefully resonate more with her listeners.
The song starts with her killer voice telling you not to forget about us. It sets the tone for the rest of the song where she shows off the versatility of her voice. She conquers both the low tones as the higher ones. Her voice’s versatility combines perfectly with the synths. Despite the presence of heavy synths, the song feels like a true pop song and captures the audience’s attention by the alternation of slow and emotional sections and the more uplifting beat during the chorus. The song even gives off some country vibes here and there.
With this song, she is reminiscing about a past romantic relationship and thinks back about all the happy memories linked to that. Ending a relationship doesn’t have to be a negative memory all the time, sometimes you need to be able to look back and hold on to the good parts. “We both found different love, and we’re moving on. Let’s leave it buried where it was. But I don’t want you to forget about us.”
‘Forget About Us’ brings us the summer vibes we all desperately need at the moment, and will make sure we will not forget about Perrie anytime soon.
