On May 17th 2024, the Swedish singer Omar Rudberg released his newest single ‘Red Light’. After signing with Elektra Entertainment just earlier this year, Omar is already taking over the global charts with his new song.
In a recent press release, he shared how this song “marks a new era and is the introduction to what is coming“ in terms of his future music, which is very exciting considering he confirmed in an interview that an EP is in the works.
Having a first love in mind as inspiration, the singer created a beautiful ballad with this new song. It has a very dreamy feel and a much sadder tone than the rest of Rudberg’s discography. The instrumentation of the song is consistently calm up until the second chorus, where it picks up a little. The captivating composition gives the song a special little something that makes it stand out from his other releases. Throughout the whole record Omar is showing off his immaculate vocals and, especially towards the end of the song, he truly reveals the power of his voice.
The lyrics are undoubtedly emotional and portray a bittersweet feeling. Coming back to Rudberg’s inspiration of a ‘first love’, the song talks about that longing feeling of not fully knowing how the other one feels in terms of falling in and out of love – “Didn’t mean to fall in love“ / “We only had a couple days“ – but still really wanting to be close to that other person – “I wanna call you and see you“. Singing “And in the bedroom where I lie, seems like it can’t be the same, though you were never here with me“ shows how sometimes we fantasise about being with the person, without actually being able to have them close in our actual life, which is something I am positive a lot of people can relate to.
In a recent interview, the singer stated how he was ready to be “unapologetically himself with his music“ and it becomes clear that ‘Red Light’ is the start of a new very confident era.
To sum this up: Keep an eye out for all the things Omar Rudberg has planned this year and clear your summer schedules to see him live. On June 1st he is playing Gröna Live (in Gröna Lund amusement park) which is a music festival in Stockholm, and on September 1stt he will be playing the Heide Park Festival in Germany.
