Album Review: ‘Vom Tun und Lassen’ by Heisskalt

Over six years have passed since their last release but now they are back: on January 24th, German indie rock band Heisskalt released their new album Vom Tun und Lassen. The album is an emotional reflection on life and picks up where the band left off in 2018.

The songs ‘Vampire’, ‘Wasser, Luft und Licht’, ‘Mit Worten und Granaten’ and ‘Heim’ were released as singles before the album release. The singles summarise the album as a whole, representing both quieter slow songs and loud fast-paced rock sounds.

Heisskalt is appreciated by their fans for deep and thought-through lyrics, Vom Tun und Lassen does not disappoint in that aspect at all. The lyrics are emotional and relatable, yet leave space for interpretation. Lyrically, the songs ‘Dieses Gefühl’ and ‘Heim’ are the album’s clear highlights.

The album has a coherent and consistent sound. Yet, each song has unique features. Heisskalt has managed to return with an album that represents the sound they have known and loved for a while including new and fresh melodies and sounds.

Another highlight of the album is the closing track ‘Teilchen’. Not only does it finish the album perfectly regarding sound, but the lyrics are both a reflection on the world and a love letter to life.

Vom Tun und Lassen is an amazing album for both fans of the band and people who are just now discovering them. Whether sound or lyrics are more important to you, Heisskalt has created an album with unique sounds and lyrics in which no word is wasted. If you are a rock music fan, you should definitely give their new release a listen. This year in September, Heisskalt are touring through Germany, bringing their album onto stages throughout the country.
