The new generation of pop/rock icons is coming for us, and artists like Knox are on the frontline. Using his visceral heartache to create jaw-dropping euphoria, the singer has not just laid the groundwork for a long career in music, but he’s also catapulted himself right to the front of the pack of the next generation powerhouses. But this is just the beginning.
Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, Knox is a talented singer-songwriter quickly rising to popularity within the music industry. In the last year and a half, he has signed to Atlantic Records and gained a strong fanbase via TikTok, where one of his videos featuring the hit track ‘Sneakers’ accumulated nearly 2 million views overnight. He’s rapidly become a contender for conquering the new generation of music lovers, and the excitement behind the new ‘Man Down’ single confirms this.
The cover art for the single shows Knox as a beat up boxer. ‘Man Down’, comes hand in hand with a punchy (excuse the pun) lyric video. With a reputation for writing witty lyrics and unforgettable melodies, Knox Morris lets us see a side of himself we can all relate to. We have all felt unlucky in love and the pain of a toxic relationship. As the fighter of a one-sided match, Morris withstands every punch while singing “She’s a drop-dead stone-cold killer / But damn, I’m dying to be with her.” When the first chorus plays, Knox is seen being punched in the face by a boxing glove, returning to his performance with a bloodied nose. As the visualizer continues, the 25 year old songwriter faces more and more blows, coming to terms with his fate. It is an impactful representation of how cruel love can be sometimes.
The second song of his latest releases comes as Knox’s already immensely popular single, ‘Not The 1975’, which came out on its own last month and has garnered an impressive 4 million views within the week following its launch. ‘Not The 1975’, is a song based on a conversation the singer had at a bar. The chorus line “I like your confidence, but you’re not The 1975” serves as the inspiration. ‘Not The 1975’ is full of clever references from The 1975’s own music, adding a level of intrigue for fans of both musicians. The track carries multiple guitar riffs and instrumentals, emulating a mix between The 1975’s music and the individual touch of Knox’s distinct pop/rock sound.
Next up is ‘We’re Not In Love Anymore’, sharing the two sides of a fading relationship. Knox and collaborator Charlotte Sands give their perspective on why and how their flame is burning out. The melancholic set features electronic drums and a simple plucking guitar that give room to the power of the lyrics. As the bridge hits, Knox and Sands sing “You were the person I tell all my secrets. Now I can’t tell how you feel.” These two lines drive the message of the song and are guaranteed to resonate with both artists’ fans.
Featuring one of the most impressive hooks I’ve heard in a while, ‘Love Letter’ is a song to raise your middle finger up to lovers of the past who’ve done you wrong. Take all the love letters they’ve ever written for you, put this on full blast through your speakers and burn those letters along with the unpleasant memories of your relationship. The energy emitting from this song makes you want to dance, scream at the top of your lungs, break stuff up and do absolutely everything to get it all out.
With every song Knox has released, he has never disappointed, so here is our open love letter to him. Stream his music and follow him here. Make sure to stay tuned for his upcoming EP I´m So Good At Being Alone that´s releasing on Oct 6th as you definitely wouldn´t want to miss that!
