EP Review: ‘We Good’ by INJI

On September 13th, upcoming house artist INJI came through with her new EP WE GOOD. The EP is a collection of five songs that perfectly line up with the rest of her discography, while also showing positive developments in her musical style.

The first track ‘NICE TO MEET YA’ was released as a single prior to the EP release and features the hip hop-pop duo Flyana Boss. While sticking to the easy-going vibe that INJI’s music is known for, the song shows that the New York-based artist has some amazing vocal skills, as ‘NICE TO MEET YA’ includes some higher-sung parts.

‘GIRLZ’ had also been released prior to the release of the EP. The song is an empowering anthem for all girls and women. The assumption that all house music sounds the same definitely does not apply; the beat switches several times. The different parts match each other very well, yet the track sounds very diverse.

With the third track ‘PEPSI COLA’, INJI provides one of her best songs to date. She had teased this song on TikTok before, but since then, the song has developed in a very positive direction. The beat is the catchiest on the EP and the lyrics make a very cute song about having a crush.

‘SEXY 4EVER’ featuring Nile Rodgers is another versatile track. While providing yet another house beat that would fit in a fun night out, the lyrics are fun, empowering, and a little silly. The vocals switch between spoken and sung lyrics very frequently.

The EP closes with ‘ROT’. Of course, the foundations of this song are fast-paced electronic beats. The vocals, however, are more melodic than on the other tracks, and the lyrics dealing with the topic of fate are definitely the deepest on the EP.

INJI’s new EP is in no way a copy of her previous releases. She is showing new facettes of herself and her lyrics are clearly developing with every song. By now, she has proven that she is far more than a short-term TikTok success. Instead, INJI has established herself as a fun and empowering artist for all fans of house music.
