Live Review: Parov Stelar in Lisbon

On Saturday, April 27th, the esteemed musician, and producer Marcus Füreder alias Parov Stelar, concluded his ‘THEATER TOUR’ in Europe with an electrifying performance at the iconic Campo Pequeno, in Lisbon, Portugal. The evening was characterised by a masterful fusion of electro-swing, jazz, swing, and soul, captivating a diverse audience eager for a unique musical experience.

The stage was warmed up by the talented El Siciliano, whose electronic music remixes set the stage for the stars of the night.

Around 10 p.m., Parov Stelar took centre stage, positioning himself behind his DJ booth to kick off the party he had promised weeks earlier in an interview with the Portuguese magazine Ritmos e Batidas: “A night to recharge batteries”.

Backed by an envy-inducing line-up, including three brass players, two vocalists, a guitarist, and a drummer, Parov Stelar led the audience through a whirlwind of sounds and emotions. The virtuosic guitar and drum solos reverberated throughout the arena, while the captivating melodies of the brass instruments intertwined with the hypnotic voices of the vocal duo, creating a symphony of pure energy.

Parov Stelar’s magnetic charisma engaged the audience as he skillfully alternated between manipulating the DJ booth and passionately inviting the crowd to revel in a Campo Pequeno-turned dance floor. The most intense moments were further accentuated by strategically positioned LEDs, adding a stunning visual dimension to the spectacle.

One of the highlights of the evening was the performance of a new song dedicated to those facing difficult times. Despite the melancholic tone of the lyrics, the rhythm remained steadfast, slowing only in the song “In Between,” written during a challenging period in the vocalist’s life, allowing the music to speak for itself. The emotiveness of the lyrics and the power of the voices resonated deeply with the audience, providing a moment of intimate and shared connection.

Beyond the music, the interaction between the band and the audience was a crucial element of the performance. An exciting battle between the brass section and the spectators heightened the energy of the venue, culminating in a thunderous ovation at the end of the show.

As this was the final concert of the tour, the eight artists on stage made sure to express their gratitude to all who made this leg of the tour possible, acknowledging technicians, managers, and the entire team working behind the scenes. Special recognition was also given to the individual who orchestrated the magic, Parov Stelar.

As the concert ended, the male vocalist addressed the audience: “This is the part where I usually ask everyone to stand up, but you’re all already up, so… let’s dance!” Looking around, the only people sitting were those simply exhausted from dancing and in need of a brief respite to recharge their energy.

As Parov Stelar and his band bid farewell to the stage, leaving behind an ecstatic and exhilarated audience, it became evident that this night at Campo Pequeno was not merely a concert but an unforgettable sensory experience, a celebration of music and life.
