Song Review: ‘alibi’ by ear candy

Another banger by ear candy was released on October 25th. Their newest track ‘alibi’ stands a great chance to be your new favourite song, so give it a listen and stick around for a review.

As the band’s second single after their debut EP Songs But Not Forgotten, ‘alibi’ fits the usual ear candy vibe perfectly, while simultaneously showing the band’s progression when it comes to the production.

The melody has a nostalgic touch to it, which is mixed with the typical ear candy energy and strong instrumentals. Singer Jamie’s vocals are as powerful as ever, which is especially noticeable during the ending of the song. The bouncy feeling of the record truly makes one want to dance and sing their heart out, even if the lyrics are rather sad, as it’s someone talking about losing their love.

Talking about lyrics, you’re in for a treat – as always. ear candy truly never disappoints with their incredibly well-written songs. The record deals with losing one’s love after trying to keep it close and do everything to stay together. Lines like “You need time, so I bought us an hourglass; slipping away with every little grain of sand” and “You need space, so I built you a rocket ship; to count stars and feel the world at your fingertips” show how much time and effort the protagonist has put into the relationship and how hard they tried to make the other person happy.

The chorus then explains how they wish that the other person would put as much effort into the relationship as they did, and for the other to change the way they think instead of making them feel crazy for wanting to save their love (“Throw me a line and change your state of mind, making me feel like I’m caught in a crime; I got no alibi”).

In the bridge, ear candy shows off their singers’ beautiful vocals once more while finishing up the song’s theme, voicing the heartbreak and wishful thinking that maybe one day the relationship could work again (“You fell out of love, it’s so hard to face.” / “Making a wish, hoping you come back someday.”).

With this song, the band has truly levelled up their music again. They are definitely worth keeping on your music radar.
