Song Review: ‘Angel Of My Dreams’ by JADE

That JADE is a gifted songwriter, singer and dancer is something we’ve known for years because of Little Mix. The only question that remained was how she would sound as a solo artist. That question was answered on July 19th with the release of ‘Angel Of My Dreams’.

‘Angel Of My Dreams’ is about JADE’s journey in the music industry. The lyrics reveal the toxicity that she has experienced, with two references seemingly pointing towards her time at Simon Cowell’s label. But next to this, the song also mentions the counter side, the fact that she loves the spotlights and it’s something she can’t live without. Therefore her journey is described as the angel of her dreams, while simultaneously being a love-and-hate relationship.

The song is incredibly catchy and has a great beat, though occasionally it can feel a bit chaotic because of the many switches in style and tempo. The pre-choruses show JADE’s clear voice and beautiful adlibs, proving she knows very well what she’s doing and how her voice works best. The choruses are more 90s-styled and sound slightly overproduced. JADE promised to take risks and discover new sounds, and she for sure fulfilled this promise.

To fully comprehend the song, it’s recommended to also watch the video that comes with it, where one can see her change her persona and stories during almost every part of the song. It’s a short movie that shows the different stages of a music career and how the industry handles it.

JADE absolutely didn’t disappoint with her first solo single. Even though it can feel slightly chaotic at times, she introduced a totally new sound. She distinguished herself from the mainstream pop sound and we can only look forward to what’s more to come.
