Song Review: ‘Close My Eyes’ by Luke Hemmings

After his recent release Shakes’, Luke Hemmings returns with another captivating single slated for inclusion on his highly anticipated second EP, boy. ‘Close My Eyes, a collaborative effort with Sammy Witte, renowned for his past work with artists such as Maggie Rogers, Freya Ridings, and Harry Styles, promises to captivate listeners once again.

“I’m elated to share the next chapter from boy – a song called ‘Close My Eyes’. I wrote this as I headed into my late 20s and felt an unavoidable wave of fear and anxiety towards the inevitable death of my youth. I found myself unable to sleep because every time I tried; it was as if a film of my life was projected onto the back of my eyelids. The mistakes, successes, everything that could have been, and everything that was. I felt physical growing pains of becoming a fully realized version of myself while having to say goodbye to the past.”

‘Close My Eyes’ emerges as a second chapter to the initial, more melancholic single, adorned with synths and profound lyrics. In this track, we accompany Hemmings as he navigates the intricacies of maturation and self-discovery.

Through poignant verses like “Now I don’t wanna close my eyes / See everything I ever done / I never got to say goodbye” and “Where is the time I lost?”, Hemmings delves into the uncertainty and introspection that naturally accompany the transition into adulthood.

Ahead of the release of his upcoming EP later this month, Hemmings has unveiled the dates for his eagerly awaited world tour: the “Nostalgia For A Time That Never Existed Tour”. Scheduled for the spring, the tour will encompass stops throughout the UK and Europe, including cities such as Paris, Milan, Warsaw, Cologne, Amsterdam, Glasgow, Manchester, and London.

Following the spring leg of his tour, Hemmings will embark on a North American tour from May 21st to June 6th. Subsequently, he will return to his home country for performances in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. Tickets are available now and can be purchased here!
