On November 10th, promising German indie band Giant Rooks released their latest single, ‘Cold Wars.’ After announcing that their upcoming album How Have You Been? will be available in February, the band, consisting of Fred Rabe (vocals), Finn Schwieters (guitar), Jonathan Wischniowski (piano), Luca Göttnerel (bass), and Finn Thomas (drums), allows us to get a taste of what we can expect from the album with this new song.
The song starts with Rabe’s sweet voice, entering the song promptly, immediately showcasing his impressive vocal range. The main themes explore the nostalgia of happier moments and how they came to an end, as reflected in the lines “the sun goes down / without any reason” and “sunset, pour your light upon me / just wrap me up into sunbeams.” The harmonious blend of vocals and melody, where all instruments fit perfectly, takes you floating through the song, from the softer verses to the explosive chorus “I remember cold wars /daddies running into closed doors / I’m right here between the front lines / always on the wrong side” until the last line of the song, “I’m counting on you.” They continue to surprise with the creation of songs that have such a distinctive sound that makes them instantly recognizable, and yet, each new track continues to leave us in awe.
The members of Giant Rooks are aware of their worth and have already fearlessly announced their new European tour which starts in January 2024 and covers 22 cities. Afterwards, they will embark on a special tour leg in Germany before heading straight to North America, concluding with another 21 dates in spring. Hurry because tickets are flying off the shelves!
