Song Review: ‘Dandelion’ by Evan Kreutz

Back when he was only 8 years old, Evan Kreutzberg started his musical journey under the name 7evan. Nowadays, the singer/songwriter from New Jersey is known under the name Evan Kreutz and has majorly developed his sound. Inspired by a wide array of genres, including pop, rock, and even R&B, Kreutz’ mission is to deliver emotional and relatable tracks. On November 15th, Kreutz released his newest single ‘Dandelion’.

On this track, Kreutz explores a fleeting love, comparing his significant other to a dandelion taken away by the wind. In the song’s short, spoken intro, Kreutz says he can’t tell where she has gone, backed up by the loud strumming of a guitar. The song then immediately moves into its first verse, drums chiming into the instrumentals that add to the faraway, bittersweet vocals. In this first verse, Kreutz sings how “she’s all out of patience” and “she wouldn’t wait for anybody else”, reflecting on how his lover is not one to stay in the same place for a long time. In the song’s chorus, Kreutz repeats the title several times, backed up by louder instrumentals, and ends this part of the song by stating how “he can’t put up a fight” because “she’s already taking flight”.

An interesting aspect of the lyrics is that the first verse mentions the girl’s perspective in third person, while the second verse is written in first person. In this section, Kreutz states he is “all out of waiting” but “wouldn’t follow anybody else” either. This really shows how both him and his partner want to be with one another, but it’s simply not working out. The second verse is followed by another chorus and then an instrumental breakdown of guitars, drums and vocalizing. The song finally ends with a spoken, robotic outro that takes one right back to how the song opened.

‘Dandelion’ is a catchy alternative track that only gets more addictive the more one listens to it. The lyrics efficiently tell a story of a heartbreak, set to a vibey alternative rock backdrop. Kreutz will be releasing his debut EP in 2025, and if this single is anything to go by, it will surely be a great release in the indie scene.
