Song Review: ‘Fallout’ by Engrave

On July 5th, Engrave is back with a new song called ‘Fallout’, and Melomaniacs Magazine had to get a hold of it and review it for you.

As you’re eased into the song with melodious vocals and a taste of guitars and drums, ‘Fallout’’s first verse brings you straight into Engrave’s musical universe.

“You take from me like I’m your charity. I give, you break, yeah, like I’m your enemy.”

Contrasting with the gentler vocals of the first part of the song, the chorus kicks in with its raspiness and explosive instrumentals. The melody is catchy, and the background elements easily pull you in.

After announcing his departure from the band in early March, one of Engrave’s singers, Brad Dilorenzo, is back with all of his mighty and powerful vocals. It’s a blessing to hear his voice fitting like a perfect puzzle piece with the rest of the band again. Brad and Alec’s vocals complement each other throughout the song in a game of catch, bringing an interesting dynamic to the overall shape of the single.

As you hit the bridge, the atmosphere suddenly changes. The synths, singing, and guitar elements bring the song to a floating point, as if you were elevated in the air. But there is no flying without a fall in heavy music, so the bridge concludes with a heavy drop, dragging you back into the chorus one last time as if you hit the ground.

“Where do I pull from when there’s nothing left to feel? And can I pull the plug if I’ve run out of ways to heal? Would you even notice? Would you even care at all?”

As usual, Engrave manages to mix rough and soft, not only in vocal delivery and throat-gripping lyrics, but also in the way the song is articulated.

We can’t wait to see where the band takes us next. In the meantime, you can watch the music video for Fallout here!
