Song Review: ‘Fearless Child’ by Telegraph

Telegraph is a pop rock band from France consisting of members Julien Humez, William Atkins, Maxime Fornareso, and Matthew Humez. They have deservedly captured the hearts of thousands with over five thousand monthly streams on Spotify and their biggest song ‘Down in the River’ getting over a million streams. Their music highlights what matters in the world through raw and real lyrics and by speaking up about the forgotten and overlooked. They pull on heartstrings and open minds.

Their new song ‘Fearless Child’ is the perfect blend of the contrast of a delicate instrumental and a heart wrenching lyric. The opening instrumental starts off loud and strong and then falls into a soft steady melody. The instrumental alone reminds me of something that should be in the most important part of a heartfelt movie. The lyrics are even more captivating as the song is written like a letter from a terminally ill child to their parents.

‘Fearless Child’ pulls you into the child’s world, with an eye opening and heart wrenching purpose. The song begins with the child asking their parents to join them in this uphill battle of acceptance and realisation “Wanna climb a mountain but I need your hand.” We see the child’s determination to stay brave for their parents throughout the song especially in the lyrics “Don’t wanna care I’m a fearless child my strength can be yours.” We hear the child’s desperation for their parents to be honest and start accepting the inevitable “Why don’t you tell me what is going on, why can’t you find peace? It is time to spread my wings.” A line that hammers home the sentiment of this song is “I’m feeling like a gun loaded with shooting stars” as it highlights the strength and perseverance of the child through something so heartbreaking. This song is not something I know you would want to listen to, it is something everyone must listen to.
