Song Review: ‘got it’ by Ear Candy

Ear Candy has gone and done it again. After a long six months without new music the Southampton musician has just released his newest single ‘got it’ and is setting the mood for the new year perfectly.

With its usual bouncy, summery vibe the song talks about something relatable within relationships of any kind: feeling empathy for someone in your life and all their struggles, but still not getting pulled back into their life by telling them that if they “want it” they “got it“ on their own. A perfect example of an Ear Candy song – happy sound, not so happy lyrics.

Production wise Jamie aka Ear Candy levels up time and time again. The vibey instrumental carries the song from a story-telling verse, to an upbeat chorus, over to the finishing bridge. Accompanied by Ear Candys literal signature “Ear Candy” and all its little “dings” and “oohs” the song says goodbye to any negativity certain people or situations might bring along and will convince you to not let them get to you anymore.

Opening with the line “Why are you trying to call me?“ The song immediately grabs your attention and gets you invested in the story Jamie is telling the listeners. Going on to the second part of the first verse where he tells the ex that he’ll no longer be there to “dry your eyes“ and continuing with the chorus, telling the other person to “check the vibe” before trying to get him to come back to them. The musician goes on to explain how the person is way too caught up in their dreams and trying to figure out “where to fit in” and loses focus of the actual moment. The bridge, which completes the song, then says goodbye to the person the song is aimed at by telling them that “You just gotta remember; If you want it, you got it.”

Ear Candy songs have always had the intention of being genuine and Jamie wanted to create a safe place for strangers to get together and relate to the same things, as he told us in a previous interview last year. With his latest tune he did just that – again. I don’t know about you, but I have definitely felt like I wanted to be there for someone who I used to be close with, but didn’t end up letting them get to me anymore. And ‘got it’ captures these feelings in a very accurate and uplifting way. Making the listeners feel strong enough to just let go of someone that has been hurting them.

In conclusion: Ear Candy is an artist you should keep an eye out for in the future and ‘got it’ is THE song you should add to your 2024 Soundtrack playlist right now. Those upbeat tunes will never fail to make your mood instantly better and will immediately make you think that no matter what you wanna achieve: You got it!
