Invent Animate just came back with a late title track for their fourth full length album Heavener. Six months after the album’s creation, the band released a song which encompasses its whole energy and meaning.
In a Q&A held right after the live premiere of the track, the band explains what ‘Heavener’ means to them. For vocalist Marcus Vik, ‘Heavener’ is reassurance about what comes after grief and especially the positive aftermath you will experience after mourning the loss of a loved-one. For guitarist Keaton Goldwire, it’s allowing yourself to create and manifest your own version of heaven.
A mysterious, dark, hazy intro starts off the song, introducing soft vocals and a grainy synth. With ethereal verses, ambient guitars and gentle drums, the listener will embark in a 4:31 trip, like a heavy ascension, gliding over what sounds like a literal piece of heaven.
“I will stay, if you are all on your own
You won’t be alone here with me.”
Written in D sharp, the piece sounds melancholic which contrasts with the rather reassuring lyrics.
“The clouds will part
The sun will smile
And burn away the fear inside”
The bridge then builds anticipation for a breakdown that will pull at your heartstrings and hand you a gorgeous guitar riff. It goes without saying that this riff is the centerpiece and, as stated by the band, it serves an important purpose of elevating the energy of the song to a whole new level, making it their favorite element in ‘Heavener’.
To complete this musical trip, the song ends with the iconic riff, nice plucky synths, and gentle fade-out.
“My heart, my soul be with me ‘til the end
Stay awake, my Heavener”
