Song Review: ‘I Lied, Amber’ by Keo

If you have not heard of the upcoming band Keo, you’re missing out. This band, formed by the Keogh brothers, can be compared along the lines of Wunderhorse, and has been inspired by Radiohead, Jeff Buckley and Fontaines D.C. They released their song ‘I lied, Amber’ on the 21st of March, and it is currently their only released song on Spotify. The band has already played several support slots, including on Nieve Ella’s latest tour and in BST Hyde Park. Through their quality live performances, they have already gained a supportive online following, which is understandably enthusiastic about the new song release.

‘I lied, Amber’ is a song about “pretending to trust somebody and lying to yourself that you do.” according to Keo themselves. “Letting your past relationships negatively dictate your future ones, but ultimately surrendering to the person with the knowledge that they have your heart in the palm of their hand.”

The first verse starts off slow, with just vocalist Finn Keogh singing on a guitar track. In the chorus, the drums and bass kick in. These instruments set the scene and establish a sense of emotion, which pairs beautifully with the raw meaning of the song. The combination of Finn’s hoarse voice and the band’s grunge sound fits the small and bigger lines that are sung, successfully carrying the song’s meaning and promising a lot for the band’s future.

If you’re looking to be part of a band before they blow up, here is your start sign. ‘I lied, Amber’ may be the first officially released song, but you are able to listen to Keo’s other works ‘Crow’ and ‘Fly’ on Soundcloud as well if this song piqued your interest.
