He has done it again: Swedish-Venezuelan singer, dancer, actor and queer role model Omar Rudberg releases another banger called ‘I’m Not a Boy’. It was released on January 31st, 2025, and it is the best way to start the year, and his current tour, but more about that later on.
The newest track connects perfectly to his debut EP Every Night Fantasy when it comes to the melody and production of the song. It feels like Omar’s usual songs got a new edge to it, feeling a little more straightforward and raw. Paired with strong vocals as always and a great musical track that’s more guitar heavy than his previous releases, the song immediately catches your attention.

But the song also has a pretty clear message: It’s not only okay to be different, uniqueness is something to be proud of. In the first verse Rudberg sings: ‘Try to tell me what I’m made of – What you know about my life?’ which immediately shows this sort of provocative question about why people judge others without actually knowing anything at all.
In the pre-chorus, he sings about the fact that the way he lives and acts is just how he was born and nothing to be concerned about (‘You don’t have to worry honey, I’m alright. This is how I was created.’), and then finishes the pre-chorus with ‘Sorry to tell you, but I am a freak,’ which he connects to being something positive because being different should be a normal thing anyways.
The chorus then emphasizes that, by saying ‘I’m not a boy, I’m not a girl, I am an alien out of this world. I am no thing you can put into words, I’m just an idiot looking for love.’ These lyrics clearly show that it doesn’t matter who you are, we all just want to love and be loved and should also show that more often instead of hating on people for who they are, who they like, or what they do (‘Lover, now don’t be a hater’).
In the second verse, he asks about himself and if people understand him, or why they might not (‘Can you comprehend this art? Or maybe you ain’t that creative? And that’s okay ’cause I’m a lot, my mama didn’t make me basic’). Here, he again shows the listener proudly who he is and that it’s okay that not everybody gets it, and that we don’t have to be liked by everyone. To finish the song, Omar repeats the chorus for the outro and shows off his powerful vocals that really underline the message of the song once more.
By now, Omar Rudberg should be on everyone’s upcoming artists’ radar, so if you read this and have never heard of him before… What are you doing? He has a ton of songs out and is also currently on his second headline tour all over mainland Europe and the UK. So get your tickets and let yourself be blown away by the beautiful vocals and sweet personality of Omar at his headline shows. Oh and, he’s a great dancer too, so his shows are really special!
