JESSIA is back! Following the viral success of her breakout single ‘I’m Not Pretty’ in 2021, she’s back with her latest release, ‘I’m Not Gonna Cry’, that dropped on December 13th. The track radiates a powerful message of resilience and self-empowerment. At a recent press conference, JESSIA shared, “This song is about the will to keep showing up for yourself, even when life gets tough. It’s about choosing to celebrate the good instead of dwelling on the bad. I want it to lift listeners up, dust them off, and get them ready for their busy day or a fun girls’ night out.”
While the song carries an uplifting theme, the lyrics delve into the struggles of staying strong. Lines like “I’m putting on my make-up / Gluing all the pieces of me I got left / I’ll hold it all together / I’m not eating / Least I look good in this dress” capture the tension between appearing composed and feeling broken. The repetitive chorus, “I’m not gonna cry, I’m not gonna cry”, feels like a personal mantra, a reminder to hold it together even on the brink of tears. The accompanying instrumentals reflect this duality, balancing a sense of struggle with an underlying drive to persevere. The bridge, in particular, amplifies the raw emotion and desire to feel okay.
After independently releasing her second EP, Okay With Every Part, in 2024, JESSIA continues to carve out her space as a rising force in the music industry. ‘I’m Not Gonna Cry’ is yet another testament to her artistry and undeniable potential.
