Song Review: ‘Lacazette’ by Matty Marz

Rising electro-pop singer Matty Marz released her new single and music video ‘Lacazette’ today. For the football fans – yes, that is a reference to French footballer Alexandre Lacazette. The song, which is a new fast-paced pop-anthem full of booming, low-frequency 808s, is bound to steal the hearts of listeners.

With an up-tempo melody and layered vocals, the song brings a lot of depth – and football references, like penalties, in one of the first lines of the song. Very fitting, the song is one you would put on your gym playlist to stay energised and motivated during your workout, with its steady beat and energising melody. Lacazette is paired with a music video which depicts lots of cheeky references to football and impressive choreography.

“It’s a self-empowerment bop cloaked in lush instrumentation,” Matty explains. “I hope that ‘Lacazette’ will have the listener feeling like they can conquer the world and shoot that winning goal in any situation.”

New York-based Matty Marz is a young trans woman who has a background in classical music and years of experience producing, performing, dancing, and songwriting. Matty tells an interesting life story. She graduated from the Los Angeles Academy for Artists & Music Production where she worked with the best mentors in the industry and learned how to fine-tune her vocals and songwriting.

Matty released her single ‘EPILL’ earlier this year. Both songs will be part of her debut album m.w.u, which will be released later this year. m.w.u is inspired by artists such as Charlie XCX, Ethel Cain and Björk and is an immersive project that tells the story of euphoria and release.
