Song Review: ‘New Way Out’ by Poppy

Singer-songwriter Poppy is back with a fresh new single called ‘New Way Out’, and it seems like we are in for a little treat. Teaming up with Jordan Fish, former member of British metal band Bring Me The Horizon, the all rounder artist gives us a brand new song which will make fans of her earlier heavy music jump up and down.

Electronic elements and a heavy beat and guitars eases you right in, and with a typical «Poppy !», you discover this new tune. The verses are simple with musical accents and fierce vocals that sound on an unusually deeper register for the singer.

The additional vocals in the background of the pre-chorus add layers and build up to an explosive chorus with an incredibly catchy melody. You can definitely feel Jordan Fish’s influence, which is obviously highly appreciated. Both Poppy’s and Fish’s styles shine through for the entirety of the song.

With a banshee-like scream, you are pulled back into the riff of the intro and then into the rest of the song, up until a breakdown that keeps coming and coming and as the chorus hits one last time, the melody is definitely engraved into your system.

Overall, the song is energetic, bursting with heavy elements and it’s going in an entirely different direction from Poppy’s last album Zig. Always reinventing herself and pushing boundaries of what we thought her capable of, the singer delivers and never leaves us empty-handed. According to Poppy, her new album is soon to be released and it seems that Jordan Fish is here to stay as a producer. It will be exciting to see what’s in stock for them!
