Song Review: ‘PALM OF MY HAND’ by NEEVE

NEEVE, an upcoming indie-pop band from Germany, has just released their first single of 2024. The four cousins Felix and Axel Seyboth and Philipp and Marius Spohrer write and produce most of their songs completely by themselves and like to talk about important topics such as depression and toxic masculinity through their music.

If you’re a fan of the quartet, you might have already heard this song, as they played it at their last show of 2023 in Hamburg. They have also posted multiple snippets on social media over the last couple of weeks of their soon-to-be-released track, which resulted in their dedicated fanbase knowing the words at the concert, even though it was an unreleased song at the time!

‘PALM OF MY HAND’ immediately captivates you with the opening instrumental. After quite an energetic intro that almost makes you feel ready to dance, the music slows down as we start hearing Felix’, the lead singer, voice for the first verse.

NEEVE reach their audience with their honest, open and melancholic lyrics and that’s also the case for their newest release. ‘PALM OF MY HAND’ is about always wanting to be in control or in other words: being a control freak. “It slips from the palm of my hand” symbolizes the inability to be in control. The calmer parts of the song, which are supported by a guitar, give the listener the opportunity to focus on the beautiful words that are sung. For the chorus, we’re thrown right back into the energetic atmosphere. Overall, with its thought-provoking lyrics, the track leaves a positive and uplifting feeling behind.

Only a couple of hours after the release, the catchy tune is stuck in my head so it’s even more exciting to know that NEEVE has been teasing an EP with more amazing songs for us to hear!
