Song Review: ‘Planet’ by Aidan Bissett

American singer-songwriter Aidan Bissett broke through in the past few years on TikTok with his self-written and produced tracks, including hits such as ‘Tripping over Air’ and ‘All That I’m Craving.’ Known for his guitar-driven alternative pop, the young artist went on his first headline tour through North America and Europe back in December in support of his Supernova EP. On February 23rd, the singer released one more song added to this EP: ‘Planet.’ Already part of his setlist as an unreleased track, the song has now finally been put out into the world.

Like his other music, the track is driven by the strumming of a guitar. It starts off backed up by soft drums and lo-fi vocals. The very laid-back and comforting sound of the first verse and pre-chorus, supported by layered backing vocals, is switched out for heavier guitars and drums in the chorus. In the track, Bissett sings about having his heart broken by a girl from ‘outer space’. Of course, the girl is not literally extraterrestrial, but she is so perfect and out of his league that it seems like she is. After the second chorus, the track has an instrumental breakdown full of drums and guitar, before delving back into the soft sound it started out with for the bridge. “She’s in control, I think she knows it,” Bissett sings quietly before picking up the tempo again for the outro. All in all, it’s a track of desperation, of feeling lost in your desire for this otherworldly person who knows she has got you wrapped around her finger.

Bissett will be embarking on his ‘Supernova: How’s It Gonna End?’ tour across North America before bringing it to Europe later this year. Dates are unknown so far, but the singer has teased it will most likely be a fall tour—you would not want to miss it!
