Song Review: ‘Pretty Boys’ by Caroline Romano

On October 11th, Nashville-based alt-pop singer Caroline Romano released her new single ‘Pretty Boys’. Following the success of her previous releases ‘Body Bag’ and ‘Doesn’t Matter’, this track explores the bittersweet nature of heartbreak.

‘Pretty Boys’ opens with the sound of a stripped-back guitar as Romano starts to sing the opening line “Happy Halloween, you kissed her in front of me.”, giving the track an immediate autumn feeling. The intimate atmosphere that the opening created, quickly spirals into an energetic, singalong chorus full of urgency and passion. Filled with raw emotions, ‘Pretty Boys’ is a powerful anthem that mirrors the intensity of her heartbreak.

Romano captures the excitement of young love and the confusion that often comes with it, contrasting the joy of a high school crush with the pain of realisation. “‘Pretty Boys’ is my honest recount of heartbreak,” the artist shares. “It’s like reading straight from my diary — a dramatic story with a terribly disappointing ending.”

At just 23 years old, Caroline Romano has emerged as a versatile artist, seamlessly moving between misty-eyed ballads and energetic alt-rock anthems. Since the release of her debut album, Oddities & Prodigies, in 2022, Romano has further defined her identity as an artist, uncovering new dimensions of her creativity with each new release.
