On Friday, April 26th, SARA dropped her first single ‘Runaway’- and we might have just found the new soundtrack to our summer. SARA, a talented singer-songwriter originally from Germany but now based in London, delivers atmospheric pop-rock tunes with a personal touch. This pop-rock anthem speaks to the dreamers out there, those hesitant to chase after their desires. SARA’s aim with this track is to uplift and empower her listeners.
With catchy melodies, nostalgic vibes, and candid lyrics, SARA captures a “main character energy” in her music, giving listeners a soundtrack for their lives.
‘Runaway’ began as a poem; its lyrics were penned in a park, a spot where SARA likes to ponder before diving into a writing session. In an interview with Melomaniacs before the single’s release, SARA revealed: “Writing ‘Runaway’ marked my return to the studio after a short break, so it felt like a significant day.”
She also shared a personal anecdote: “I had just received a message the day before from someone who used to make fun of me in school and that person was like ‘I’m so envious of the life you’re living, can you give me advice on how to get there myself?’ And I was like this is so ironic and that’s why I wrote the second line ‘People call you a joke when you live their dream but now the one who’s laughing is someone they want to be’. I actually didn’t want to release the song as it is at first because of that line, because I didn’t want to come across as if I’m full of myself, but it was inspired by that message.”
SARA added, “Living in the UK, I have been very influenced by UK music like rock, pop, and indie artists, like Sea Girls, Inhaler and Sam Fender. I’ve been very influenced by that sound, which is why I’m now doing the music that I’m doing.” Collaborating with Grammy Award winner Chris Sclafani (known for his work with Ed Sheeran, Halsey, and Selena Gomez) on her initial single gives her a strong start. Sclafani’s background in radio-friendly music blends well with SARA’s indie rock vibe, making her songs suitable for both radio play and indie enthusiasts.
After years of honing her sound and performing across London and Germany, SARA is ready to unveil her hard work. With more releases on the horizon, 2024 promises to be a breakthrough year for SARA, who hopes her musical journey will resonate with listeners and accompany them on their own paths.
