Song Review: ‘Sabotage’ by Omar Rudberg

Omar Rudberg, Swedish-Venezuelan musician, actor, and overall pop-icon, dropped his latest single ‘Sabotage’ on September 20th. It’s a powerful and raw piece about the challenges one can face when being in love. So if that sounds interesting to you, stay a minute and keep reading. I swear you won’t regret it, because Omar is one of the most promising musicians of our current music world.

After the two wonderful and successful releases this summer, ‘Sabotage’ is the last single before his EP, Every Night Fantasy, drops this autumn on October 18th, and as always, it is one masterpiece of a song.

Starting off with a well-built beat that feels very pop-star song-ish, connected with an upbeat melody and highlighted by a strong bass and drums, the song has an immediate feeling of anticipation for the powerful chorus. Following said chorus, the listener gets to hear a rap-type second verse that tells a beautiful story and is again accompanied by a strong bass, before letting the more nostalgic melody take over for the chorus. To finish the song off, in the last 15 seconds, Omar sings a little acoustic moment that feels very raw and honest.

The song itself talks about the feeling of being self-destructive and letting people go instead of letting yourself have that love and holding onto it, “But I always let love go, my intentions only good though,” despite potential fears and the possibility of getting hurt in the process.

In the first verse Omar sings: “You teach me lessons about myself that no one’s ever taught. You’re really playing with my confidence and baby that’s fine,” which emphasizes how a person can change you, when being in love, but that it doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Following up with “If I die in your arms, wouldn’t care ’bout heaven at all,” the song clearly shows how the person wants to fight for that love and will do everything to not let it break apart: “I’ll try my best to not sabotage what we got, ’cause we’re perfect the way that we are.” It is a beautiful song that feels as pure as it feels nostalgic and will make you wanna be in love and “keep that love forever sealed in a bottle” because of how euphoric it makes you.

Omar Rudberg is truly our current rising star in the music industry, and if you don’t want to miss out on what he is up to, I would suggest checking out his latest record. But also just his full discography, because there will be a song or two for everybody. He will also be going on tour this autumn in Europe and the US, so make sure to catch him there!
