On October 6th, the California-based duo Being As An Ocean released ‘Swallowed By The Earth’. The single will be included in the band’s soon to be released sixth album, coming out on February 2nd of next year. Since 2011, the band has been offering their hardcore melodic music to their audience, and it is with great enthusiasm that Melomaniacs reviews it for you.
All throughout the song, what sticks out is the bass-line. Rich, loud and omnipresent during the whole song, the sound of the oftentimes forgotten or drowned out instrument sounds refreshing and helps bring out the heavy groove out of you. There is some sort of symbiosis between the drums and the rhythm of the bass, which doesn’t go unnoticed if you dive into musical elements, as if one supports the other in the same voice.
“When our fury meets silence we are the ones who must change”
Faithful to their plaintive melodies and spikes of aggressiveness, Being As An Ocean offers you a song which fits perfectly into their signature sound. Joel Quartuccio, lead singer of the duo, delivers intense harsh vocals as well as spoken words, resembling La Dispute’s style, which adds to the furious lyrics.
“Will we let piteous anger consume us, or remain vulnerable and proudly bleed?”
Suffering is human, showing vulnerability and anger is to be expected in a difficult world, and Being As An Ocean makes sure to remind us of that with this catchy, brand new tune.
In addition to their announced new album, the band will be touring around Europe alongside Oceans Ate Alaska and Sentinels in February 2024, supporting Currents.
