Song Review: ‘Talk’ & ‘Bye Bye’ by Omar Rudberg

On June 28th 2024, rising star in our current music world Omar Rudberg dropped a surprise double release of two songs, called ‘Talk’ and ‘Bye Bye’.

After having put out his latest single ‘Red Light’ just last month, the singer is blessing his audience with even more great tracks here.

Starting off strong with ‘Talk’, Omar sets the perfect tone for a summer tune. With a crispy beat connected to strong vocals, including insane high notes and nice backing vocals, the pop star has created a song that makes one want to dance in a club all night long. And maybe even meet a special person along the way, who knows.

In the first verse, Omar sings about how a certain someone is “Flying around like a feather in my mind”, meaning he just can’t forget about them. Following that with the next part “It’s the way that your eyes make me go quiet, try to fight it but I can’t pretend” shows even more that he wants to leave the person but at the same time doesn’t want to, because he just wants to have a good time.

Continuing with “And it would be a shame if we let this go, just stay” emphasizes this even more, while making clear what he truly wants to do with the other person in the bridge and chorus of the song: “Your body language, yeah it’s speaking right to my heart.“/ “My focus is set on your body, so let it talk”.

This song also got a music video on the day of the release. It shows beautifully displayed queer love in a very gentle and loving way, the two main love interests (one of them being Omar himself) are just enjoying each other’s company, paired with an astonishing choreographed dance Omar and his dancers are performing. It’s a perfect way to end Pride Month, and definitely worth a watch.

‘Bye Bye’ takes on the role of a song to play when you are over a person and the relationship and just want to blast an empowering song to truly get over them. The singer’s vocals are just as crisp, and the little breathy “Bye bye bye bye“ vocals in the chorus jump from ear to ear when listening with headphones, which makes it even more of a fun and interesting experience listening to the song. Just like ‘Talk’, the melody here makes one feel like having a fun night dancing around like you’re the only person in the club.

Right at the start, Omar sings “Please don’t waste my time you pretty boy”, already explaining just how done he is with the person whom he was seeing. Following that with the pre-chorus “You spend your hours and your money now on somebody new, kiss me goodnight but in the mornings you break my heart in two” it becomes very apparent that he has no interest in keeping the person around because seemingly they did not care in the same way. In the chorus, he makes sure that the other person knows that it’s really over between them and that he won’t be going back to him, singing “All this time you’ve been running around town – think you can play my heart so smooth. But I’m not the one who’s a fool tonight”.

With these two bangers, Omar Rudberg reveals what his future sound might be looking like. Creating a little story with his latest three releases, going from falling and being in love (‘Red Light’), to having fun with that person and being really close (‘Talk’), to then being over him and not wanting anything to do with him (‘Bye Bye’), he sets a perfect start for the teased EP.

If you haven’t already, both the new tracks and Rudberg’s whole discography is well worth checking out. And if you like what you’re hearing, there are many chances to see him live this year at various festivals throughout the summer and his very own headline tour this fall. You don’t want to miss that!
