On October 17th, British-Portuguese musician Pedro Santos released his third single ‘The Way You Do’. If you haven’t heard about that yet, stay here for a moment to read all about it.
Sonically the song feels very nostalgic. It starts with a rather slow guitar and piano melody, but gains some more pace towards the choruses each time. Even then, the song never truly feels upbeat at all. Instead it feels like a raw outpour of emotion just through the melody.

Lyric-wise, the musician captures the feelings and thoughts of a scenario where two people fall out of love and yet can’t seem to fully forget one another yet. “No, I can’t ever let go, my heart won’t let me move on”. During the verses, Santos sings about moments where you see the other person, that used to be your whole world, in your daily life. Yet instead of living that life together, you now live in different realities (“’Cause we’re in the same room, doing what we used to. But we’re living separate lives“ // “Sat across the table from the one that’s meant to be everything I’ve ever loved“).
The chorus then brings back the theme of not wanting or being able to fully let the other person go. It explains that even though it might have been a mutual decision, it still hurts and you miss the person you used to share everything with (“I wanna go back to the day that I met you, I swear that I’d found my, felt my whole world heal.“ // “We chose to surrender, said it’s for the better.“).
The song is a truly honest and raw description of how it feels to watch the love between two people fade, knowing there’s nothing you can do about it, even if you wanted to.
Having been home for only a few weeks Pedro Santos released ‘The Way You Do’ after introducing it to audiences all over the UK and Europe as the support act for Cian Ducrot. On tour, the track always caught the fans’ attention due to the emotions in Pedro’s voice and the catchy chorus. If you’re as excited about this new rising artist as I am, you should keep your eyes peeled and check out Pedro Santos’ socials in the very near future. Who knows…maybe there’s something very fun coming soon!
