Song Review: ‘Until Tomorrow Comes’ by Here At Last

With their newest single ‘Until Tomorrow Comes’, Here At Last have proven themselves to be more than just another boyband. Whilst Zach Loizou, Tommy Lyon, Pedro Santos, James Thomas, and Ryan Burns are mostly known for their bubble gum pop, that makes us reminisce about the good old days of One Direction, they’ve steered away from the ultra sweet tunes and turned to a more mature heartfelt ballad for ‘Until Tomorrow Comes’.

Instead of fast-paced drums and guitar sounds, the track solely relies on soft piano. Thanks to the instrument playing dreamily in the background, without forcing itself too much onto the listener, one can focus entirely on the vocals. The song brings out the unique voices of each of the five band members more than their other tracks, as they sing about trying to come to terms with the loss of a loved one and the process of grieving: “I don’t wanna say ‘I miss you’, ‘cause I can’t accept you’re gone.”

‘Until Tomorrow Comes’ is a song for everyone who’s lost a dear person and is struggling to deal with that. The band is hoping that they will be of help to those who can relate to the song, just like its creation has helped them: “We wrote ‘Until Tomorrow Comes’ for everyone that needs it. It’s so relatable to us personally and we hope it is for the listeners. Finding a space where you know you’re not alone is something quite special and this was our aim in writing this song.”

While most of Here At Last’s discography is settled in the depths of pop music with a sprinkle of nostalgia (‘Like The 90s’), ‘Until Tomorrow Comes’ with its profound lyrics shows the growth of the five-piece. It proves that they not only can do fun, happy love songs to sing (or rather yell) along to in the car with your best friend, but also mature songs touching on sensitive topics in a delicate way.
