Song Review: ‘Sue me’ by Audrey Hobert

Audrey Hobert is stepping into the spotlight with her debut single ‘Sue me’, which dropped on May 9th. You may know the 26-year-old American singer as Gracie Abrams’ best friend, but this release only reiterates that she is so much more than that, including being a songwriter.

She has been working behind the scenes of the music industry for a while now, co-writing songs for artists like Gracie Abrams (including the fan favourite ‘That’s So True’ from The Secret of Us), Alessi Rose, and her brother, Malcolm Todd. Next to this, she also has TV experience under her belt, having worked as a staff writer on every episode of Nickelodeon’s The Really Loud House from 2022 to 2024.

‘Sue me’ is based on a real and messy moment in Audrey’s life: hooking up with her ex, even though she knew it was not the smartest choice. But instead of hiding from the guilt, she leans into it. In the second verse, she talks about the irresistible pull of her ex, even in simple things like the way he looks in a white T-shirt. She describes giving in to her feelings despite knowing better, an honest confession.

This song is a huge and strong debut. Not just because it is a catchy song, but also because it shows Audrey as a fearless, vulnerable artist. It is good, real, and she lives with the song, amassing hundreds of thousands of listeners already.

If you’re into artists like Gracie Abrams, Alessi Rose, Alfie Jukes, Nieve Ella, or Ben Ellis, trust me, Audrey Hobert needs to be on your playlist too.
